My Story (Aakarsh Jhamb)
Few people are born with a gift and even fewer ever manage to utilize its complete potential. The majority ,however, will have to struggle firstly to identify their strengths and then make substantial & continous efforts to develop it.
I would consider myself belonging to this greater majority of population. I was born into a humble family which had always emphasized the importance of education and hard work. This upbringing hardwired me to always keep a part of myself focused on learning and develop new skills. Just like most people. I was unsure about my professional path till the time I found my calling in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery during my internship.
I studied hard after completing Internship from Dental Wing, Maulana Azad Medical College and managed to secure Rank 10 in All India PG entrance exam 2002. Confident of my deeper calling, I opted for Post Graduation in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in Govt Dental College, Nagpur. I was fortunate to get the best of professional training, lessons in humility and compassion for ailing patients during my time at GDC&H Nagpur.
Later, I worked as Senior Resident in Lady Hardinge Medical College and Maulana Azad Dental College New Delhi. The passion for learning was burning bright even after completing senior residency. I applied for Commonwealth Scholarship and fortunately was selected for Clinical Training in UK (Head Neck Centre, University College Hospital London).
My stay in UK helped me to further clarify my goal to work as a FacioMaxillary & Head Neck Surgeon in Delhi, India. Finally, I had found the answer to my calling; it wasnt money or materialistic rewards, nor was it greater fame but It simply was the good fortune to help someone in need of surgical attention.
Then again the need to do more was felt , which prompted me to join MBA Healthcare Management in Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi University. Their I met some amazing people and made great friends who have changed my outlook forever. This blog is the outcome of their motivation and push in making the general public aware about Maxillofacial Surgery.
